Florida heat and home espresso
Cool-climate coffee advice often assumes dry pantry air and a cool kitchen. Central Florida does not. Beans stale faster when bags sit open, milk foam behaves differently in a hot room, and machines that hold water can grow film if they sit unused in humid weather.

What this climate changes
Relative humidity in much of the Southeast stays high for long stretches. Open coffee bags pick up moisture and lose aroma sooner. A “room temperature” kitchen here can run warmer than the labels on milk and syrup expect. Condensation on cold pitchers and iced glasses is normal — plan for wet counters, not a dry barista bar.
Beans and storage
Keep bags sealed. Airtight containers help more than a folded paper top. Buy amounts you will finish on a timeline that matches your own brew pace — this site does not invent shelf-life claims. If beans smell flat, oily-rancid, or musty, move on rather than chasing extraction fixes.
Grind close to brew when you can. Pre-ground coffee loses aroma faster in humid air. A simple scale keeps ratios honest when the weather swings from storm-wet to briefly drier after a front.
Iced vs hot
On a sticky Orlando afternoon, iced milk drinks often make more sense than a large hot latte you will not finish. Hot drinks still belong in air-conditioned rooms and cooler mornings. Neither choice is a cafe endorsement — it is comfort and dilution: ice melts; plan a stronger shot or less ice if you want the drink to stay coffee-forward.
Machine care in humidity
Empty and dry water reservoirs when a machine will sit. Wipe steam wands and drip trays so milk residue does not sit in warm, wet air. Descale and clean on the schedule your manual describes —
